After your interview
Now is the time to breathe a sigh of relief and think positive thoughts. You should analyse your interview performance objectively. What’s your gut feeling? Consider how interested in you the potential employer seemed, and the particular points you made that really stood out. Were all your questions answered satisfactorily?
Following up after your interview
If you are dealing directly with a company, and not through an agency, following up with an email or a letter is essential to the success of any job search endeavour. Surprisingly, many job seekers neglect this simple gesture.
In addition to being a common courtesy, sending a thank you email or letter keeps your name top of mind, and reminds them of how your qualifications best fit the position requirements. If you are being represented through an agency, then follow up with your recruitment consultant right after the interview with your feedback. Never contact the client directly. Your consultant will do this and come back to you.
If you don’t get the job, don’t take it too personally or get overly discouraged. Some job opportunities don’t work out even when they seem to be a perfect match for your skills. Be brave and ask the interviewer/recruiter exactly what let you down.
There may be areas you can improve upon for next time, and that should be your key focus - interviews you can still influence, rather than the ones you no longer have control over.
We wish you all the very best of luck and success. Remember, if you want a job badly enough and you are well prepared, anything is possible!
